Yesterday's 50 mile adventure.......Re cap!

Putting an end to cancer is a lot of hard work, but worth the challenge!!
THANK-YOU all so very much for your donations to this cause as we fight to get to that finish line. Your donations mean so much to me, and I am so very grateful. This mission is all about caring and giving as we make a huge difference in this world. Thank-you for being apart of the dream.

The day started with a 2 am alarm, and then a drive up to Lake Camanche. The weather was a perfect 55 degrees for the 6:30 start. We were instructed to follow the pink and orange flags to the 25 mile turnaround. I connected with a group of runners ( Bruce, Arturo and Becky) and we were off and running. Yay!!!

We were probably about six miles out on the trails, and we said....oh no!!!
We were so busy talking we turned onto the wrong trail system. We ran back about 1.5 mile and soon were back on course. The greatest part of the days journey was about to come true. I met up with a friend that I was longing to see Deirdre Malone Greenholz. She is a sweetheart and an incredible spirit. I am blessed to know her and to be Facebook friends with her family. We ran and talked and she kept me on course also! We reached the 50K turnaround point ( mile 15.5) and we said our goodbyes.
I kinda thought about turning around also and running back together. I was signed up for a 50 adventure so I just had to Go For It! ( I probably should have stayed with Deirdre). You were the highlight of the day!

It was no longer 55 degrees and now 85. Cows filled the trails along with lots of fresh poop. I definitely need to wash my shoes smile emoticon They were sitting on the trail along with baby calf's. I bet I saw 80 or more cows yesterday and was almost ran over by some as they ran past me.

The hills were getting steeper and longer and the peripheral neuropathy was getting extremely intense. The legs turned into concrete and I still had 30 miles to go. This is the time I do my best praying. My running is always an act of faith because I am pain before the race ever begins. It gets worse the further I run, but to cure this disease its worth the price.

It was a struggle to get to the turnaround point, and I changed my strategy for the way back. WALK!!!!! I could not lift my legs anymore so walking was the only option. 10,000 feet of climbing is sure a lot of hills smile emoticon I was averaging about 16 minute miles and just plugging along in the heat and sun. Soon I found I made a big mistake, their were no pink flags........ anywhere. I was about 2 miles off course, standing in cow poop, covered with a bunch of ticks, saw a skunk and then a snake. Ah Man!!!!

What a crazy hard adventure!!! I turned around and headed back the two miles with poop all over my shoes. It was so fresh I almost slipped and fell into it. Crazy!! The heat was beginning to take a toll on my body and I was a bit lightheaded. I definitely needed water and food....starving!

I made it back to the mile 38 check point at about 5:15 pm. Their was no way to make it back to the finish line at my pace until maybe 8:30 and the cutoff was 7:30. The Park closed at 7:30.
The thought of being on those trails at night with the cows, poop, snakes, ticks and skunks did not sound to appealing.....at all:)

I did make my way back to the starting line, but in the backseat of an air conditioned Toyota Prius. The lady who saved me was a fellow Team in Training participant too!!! Her husband was running the event and she was a volunteer. Super sweet !!!

The goal yesterday might have been to finish the 50 mile adventure, but knowing that we raised another $1250.00 made all the difference in the world. Blood cancers and all forms of cancer will be beat. God blessed this world with amazing researchers, doctors and the most loving, caring people that give from their heart. God Bless all of you!!!

It's just a long way home!
please listen and enjoy!!!

What is 55 by 55  ???
That's my crazy/nutty impossible dream 2015.
When last year ended, I had just completed my 41st marathon/ultra marathon. I thought, what seems totally impossible for 2015?  What about completing my 55th marathon by my birthday on July 20th. That would mean completing fourteen marathons or ultras in  7 1/2 months!!! No way!!!!  That would be impossible!!!!
Hmm.......,and raise $55,000 in 2015 for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society!
Wait, what about a bunch of the runs being 50 miles, or maybe another 100k!
That's nuts!!!

I have kept this crazy dream private because I wanted to get a head start.
42. The Crystal Springs Marathon......1-11-15  completed

Now, what should I do?   Hmm!!
Kick it up a notch and make it even more impossible!!!!

This weekend......( April 18th )
The Mokelumne River 50 miler

Over 10,000 feet of hill climbing
Steep grades
80 degree weather
Extremely difficult terrain

Add......I do not even want to walk right now nor wiggle a toe.
Waldenstom's Non Hodgkin's Lymphoma is Painful!!!!
Rotten!!!
Horrible!!
But, I can't let it stop me.
I feel nasty pain right now as I type this, and I am signed up for pure insanity this weekend. Every run is an act of faith. I give it to God and ask
him to keep me safe and give me strength.
Psalm 121:2
My help comes from the LORD, Who made heaven and earth.

Psalm 28:7
The LORD is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in him, and he helps me. My heart leaps for joy, and with my song I praise him. (NIV)

I hope you will donate and share the www.impossible-dream.org

Thank-you

Hello Everyone!!!!
So, how far would you go to put an end to cancer?
This coming weekend, ( Saturday April 4th) I will run 50 miles to put an end to this disease. I will do the running part and I ask of you only to donate to my fundraising page. The goal this year is to raise $55,000 dollars for the cause and complete my 55th marathon.

This Saturday will begin with the alarm ringing at 12:30am. A fast shower, put on some running clothes and a 2 hour drive to Auburn, California. I will board a bus with other runners at 4:05am and then drive to the town of Folsom. When I arrive Folsom, I will receive my race number and soon line up at the start line. Porta potty first!!!

At 6am, the gun sounds the beginning of the: "American River 50 Miler". AR50
The run begins in Folsom and ends with the infamous climb up the "Dam Wall" at mile 46. All runners will take a deep breath and ascent the climb and we will be greeted at the summit by the " Boys of last Gasp". With only 2.5 miles to go, motivational mile mark signs, cow bells and cheerleaders will boost our spirits as we tackle the last climb.Mile 49 is known as the "Party Mile" as we finally arrive the town of Auburn.

I hope to finish somewhere around 6 pm that night, and finally sit down.
I will turn on my smart phone at that time and see how much money we raised for the cause.
This cause is very near and dear to my heart.
It is my passion to end this disease.
We have all lost so many family members and friends to cancer, and I hope you will join me in my fight to the finish !
God bless all of you!
David
