The University Club was open at 5:30, and I arrived very early. The Big Event began at 6:30, but arriving early gave me a good opportunity to meet the Boy and Girl of the Year, and meet other candidates.
I was asked to be apart of the MWOY campaign last year, but turned it down. I had no desire to be the Man of the year, and I did not want that title. Well, I was asked again in 2013 and finally gave in. I want to make it clear to all you that read this: "I am doing this event only to raise a ton of money to fund new cures and treatments to BEAT blood cancers and all forms of cancer. I am not after a title........., only cures!!
This photo is with Sarah and her family, she is our Girl of the Year honoree that has BEAT leukemia. She is now eleven and totally active again. No more needles, IV bags or hospitals anymore. She is out living life, having fun and telling the world donate!!! Cancer is being Beat and we need your help to end this disease! I also had the opportunity to meet "Rhett" and his family. Rhett is our five year old Boy of the Year, and he has one more year of treatment to BEAT his Acute lymphoblastic leukemia. Rhett told the the crowd that ........." My name is Rhett, and I do give a damn!!!".
In an effort to prove the possible, I completed my fourth 31 mile ultra marathon this year on Sunday April 7th. It was muddy and extremely difficult, but 7 hrs and 19 minutes later it was complete. There was over 6800 feet of elevation gain and it was very challenging to say the least. As I ran I thought about Sarah and what challenges she faced as she went through 3 years of treatment. I thought about little Rhett, and what he goes through at this time. When I fell all the pain that remains from my blood cancer, and those two kids........I just keep on running further and raising funds and awareness about this disease.
I hope you will all join me in my quest to end this disease, and please donate!
We all need to prove the POSSIBLE in life, and go after our Impossible Dreams. People might think we are crazy, nuts, or goofy......, but that's ok!!!
