On Saturday May 2nd, I will take on the hardest event I have ever attempted. YIKES, check out the course elevation map. Talk about hills and elevation changes.,..........What am I thinking!!!!!
It all begins at 5 am and I have until 11:59 pm that night to get to the finish line. The Canyons Endurance Challenge is run mostly on single-track along the historic Western States Trail. Truly some of the finest single-track anywhere with views to match. The start/finish is at Foresthill Elementary School in Foresthill, California.
I will be alone on skinny little trails, running at night and early morning with a headlight on my Team in Training running cap. I have never ran at night before in the wilderness, and this will be something totally new. Kinda creepy actually and I will probably be one of the last finishers. (I'm allowed 17 hours and 59 minutes to finish).
Psalms 119:105
Your word is a lamp to my feet, and a light to my path
John 8:12
Then Jesus again spoke to them, saying, "I am the Light of the world; he who follows Me will not walk in the darkness, but will have the Light of life."
On my last event, I was unable to finish due to the peripheral neuropathy (PN) that I have in my legs and feet. They turned to concrete after about five miles and I was unable to lift them to clear the rocks along the way. It is horrifically painful and it is a brutal fight to get to every finish line. Last week I only completed 38 miles on the 50 mile run. This one will have way more elevation changes and 63 total miles.
PN is one of the symptoms of the type of blood cancer that I have ( Waldenstrom's Macroglobulinemia) , which is a form of Non Hodgkin's Lymphoma. I do not run for pleasure anymore, but only as a way to raise awareness to the cause and fund blood cancer research. Your donations to the cause are what give me fuel to take these challenges.

Other symptoms are dizziness, fatigue, headaches, nosebleeds, mental changes....etc.
My Mom thinks I am mentally irregular to keep doing all these crazy runs!! Nuts !!!
I probably do have some mental issue taking place because the more pain that I feel, the further I want to run. I totally believe that this is what Gods mission is for me. To share Gods love with all you and to challenge you to give from your hearts. Leukemia, Lymphoma and Myeloma are diagnosed throughout each day 365 days a year. Lets make it our goal to always have cures and treatments available and to save lives.
Matthew 6:19-21
19 Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. 20 But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. 21For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
Acts 20:35
35 In everything I did, I showed you that by this kind of hard work we must help the weak, remembering the words the Lord Jesus himself said: 'It is more blessed to give than to receive.'
Note:
I will be wearing a tracking chip that is mandatory at this event.( I guess in case I get lost ), and you should be able to see where I am at along the course. This will be a tough one!!!
I hope you will join me in my quest to end cancer,
Thanks!!
PS..........But then again, I might just do the 50k and call it a day!!!
